Japanese ink painting and calligraphy with Talia
at the Almond Grove studio - Mallorca

This workshop is inspired by the late winter early spring blossom time. You will learn to paint blossom and sparrows and will be guided into the realm of Japanese ink painting to explore your creative artist way and its evolvement. The workshop will take place and Talia’s studio in Mallorca and you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the island. The size of the class will be up to 5-6 students.
Studio opens at 10am and workshop begins at 10:30 am. We will work till 2:30 pm.
All basic tools and materials will be supplied for the duration of practice. You are invited to bring your own kit, and you will have the opportunity to purchase various tools and materials at the studio.
Each day will begin with calligraphy and other brush practice. Learning how to paint and creating your own compositions. Work on various types of paper and learn to mount your own work in the traditional Japanese way. Worksheets to form your notebook for the workshop will be offered. Light refreshment will be served throughout the day.
What to look for :
- Introduction to Japanese brush, ink, paper, colours and the artist tool set.
- Preparing the artist workspace, and making your own ink.
- Learning how to hold the brush, body posture and mindset.
- Guidance on brush strokes, lines and marks to understand the way of ink, brush and paper.
- Learning various painting techniques such as line work, free style (mokutse), dry brush and washes.
- Practicing active meditation with your painting journey as part of empowering your artistic creative self.
- Observing skills and sketching practice, finding inspiration in the almond grove outside the studio.
- Viewing and learning about ink paintings by various Japanese ink masters, from the rich history of Japanese art and Talia's research and library.
- Understanding in depth themes on composition, mounting, signing and sealing your artwork.
- Create your own original one to five completed ink paintings.
- Learn how to mount your artwork in the traditional Japanese way.

- The opportunity to purchase your own tool set, including brushes, paper, ink and seals for future practice. All tool sets are made in Japan and curated by Talia.

- For your free time, Talia can give you tips on exploring the wealth of over 300 beaches in Mallorca, hidden hot springs, special gardens for drawing practice, Juan Miro foundation and studio, mountain hikes and local farmer markets.

Travel
Travelling to Mallorca is relatively simple. BA, Ryanair, Easy jet are three of the companies that have few flights a day from the UK. The earlier you book the cheaper the tickets.
It is advisable to rent a car so you can navigate your way with ease from your local hotel to the studio and back, and be able to explore the beautiful landscape of the island. Alternatively a local taxi can be arrange for your pick up and drop off at the airport and studio.
Accomodation
A selection of local hotels within 5-20 minutes from the studio will be sent to you upon booking. Book early as they get booked ahead of time.
cancellation
If you need to cancel up to two week ahead, full fees will be refunded, less 20% admin charge. Cancellation within a week prior to booking 50% will be refunded. In case of studio cancellation, full fees will be refunded.
